Eitt versta kjarnorkuslys allra tíma átti sér stað þann 26. apríl 1986 í Chernobyl í Sovétríkjunum. 350.000 mannst þurftu að yfirgefa heimili sín, 31 lét lífið en auk þess hafði geislunin eftir slysið neikvæð áhrif á líf fjölmargra.

Nú, tæpum árum eftir slysið er áhugavert að sjá hvernigumhorfs er í Chernobyl. Hér fyrir neðan má sjá nokkrar myndir sem teknar voru á svæðinu sem teknar voru af Gleb Garanich fyrir Reuters.

Á myndunum má meðal annars sjá yfirgefin svæði í borginni, yfirgefið barnaheimili þar sem gasgrímur á börn finnast reglulega og skjaldamerki Sovétríkjanna sem nú eru liðin undir lok.
