Ummæli Sir Tim Hunt síðastliðinn þriðjudag um konur í vísindaheiminum fóru líklega ekki framhjá mörgum. Hunt, lífefnafræðingur sem meðal annars fékk Nóbelsverðlaun árið 2001, lét eftirfarandi orð falla á ráðstefnu í Seoul í Suður-Kóreu um konur innan vísindageirans:
„Leyfið mér að segja ykkur frá vanda mínum varðandi stelpur. Það er þrennt sem gerist þegar þær eru á rannsóknarstofunni. Maður verður ástfanginn af þeim, þær verðar ástfangnar af manni og þegar maður gagnrýnir þær fara þær að gráta!“
Hunt gaf einnig til kynna að hann væri hlynntur kynjaskiptum rannsóknarstofum. Í kjölfar ummælanna hefur Hunt sagt upp stöðu sinni við University College London.
